Bismillah Rahmaani Raheem,
It is inevitable that over the duration of life, an individual undergoes a process of change and evolution in their personality and in their character. During this period of change, the very ideals and values which govern the interactions and mannerisms of the individual are subject to change and rotation. As a Muslim, I believe that the derivation of all of my values ought to be grounded in established practices from the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the beloved Prophet Muhammed (Pbuh). Allah tells us in the Quran: "this day I have completed your religion and selected Islam as your deen (lifestyle is how I would translate that)". However, this is a very idealistic position and a lofty one to reach. It would be incredibly folly to assume that by virtue of being Muslim, an individual will be able to conduct themselves perfectly according to the Holy Texts. However, the Prophet (pbuh) was described by his wife in an authentic hadith to be the living manifestation of the Quran. It is this state of being that should be yearned for by all people.
The only inspiration which pushed me into changing was a realization that everything that is given up for God will be returned in a manner which is pleasing to Him and to yourself. There exists nothing that one can give up for the sake of the Almighty without being assured that contentment will follow. Allah reminds us in the Quran numerous times that the most successful people are the ones who have realized that the purpose of their life is not to be subserivent to their nafs (desires or souls) but to be submissive to the one who placed the nafs within them in the first place! Evolution of the soul can also be made easier with companionship who push you to your full capabilities.
In order to enter into a real process of change, trust in Allah and move forward. Know that the one whom you have left your trust in will never betray you nor will He allow you to become saddened at what you have left. The Almighty outlines his promise to you when He reminds you that He wishes to purchase your soul and wealth from you in exchange for the everlasting bliss of paradise. There is no chance that the promise of God is false. Thus, rejoice and celebrate at the bargain transaction which you have just acquired. Remember the statement of our beloved Prophet pbuh when he reminded us all: The merchandise of Allah is expensive, and the merchandise of Allah is Jannah
